95th Festival of Church Music
The Free Church Choirs come together every two years in a different Cathedral each time to sing a varied programme of choral music. This year, on 14 October, it was the turn of The Cathedral and Abbey Church of St Albans. High Street has participated for many years, this year as one of 44 church choirs from all over the southern and eastern parts of the country.
An afternoon rehearsal preceded a service of music and readings. In the evening the Dean of St Albans the Very Revd Jo Kelly-Moore officiated.
Deacon Sarah Wickett beautifully read Colossians 1: 9-23. Members of High Street’s Church Choir sang the programme of anthems and hymns old and new, ranging from Bach to Valerie Ruddle. This was a wonderful and uplifting occasion.
The next national Festival is scheduled to take place on Saturday 11 October 2025 at Coventry Cathedral.
